Tomb of the Unknown Mummy

ABC Spelling Wizard

Merlin: Camelot Defence

Maths Lines

Great fun! Choose a subject, choose a difficulty, wait for someone to play against, and off you go! Register to keep a record of your scores.

Search the mysterious tomb, looking for clues to identify the person buried in the tomb. Be careful not to run out of light, though...

Enter your new spellings (spelt correctly, of course!) and create either a word scramble or a wordsearch to play online.

This is an excellent strategy game, built to accompany BBC One’s Merlin series.
There are three levels, the last of which is especially tricky and might take a few turns to complete!

Test your addition of pairs to ten by firing balls from a cannon.
It's good fun and actually quite challenging, even if you do know your pairs to ten.

Most of the strategy games below were built by a guy called Nick Kouvaris, of Lightforce Games, who kindly gave me permission to host the games on my site. Lucky you!

WIRBS are back!

Well, sort of... the black, round thingies on this site are from a set of icons called Friendly Fire.

Friendly Fire icons by Sniffels, on Deviant Art

They were created by someone known as Sniffels, on Deviant Art.

I'd also like to thank Patrick Keefe of St Louis Web Design, as his site is where I got the initial inspiration for this site from.

About This Site

No pixels were hurt during the making of this site.

Neither were any animals, except for a chicken, served in a delicious Madras sauce with a warm naan bread, but that was probably killed before I started. Mmm...

Accessibility

I've built this site with the target audience in mind, which consists of school children, parents and other teachers. The site was built to be accessible right from the beginning of the design process, but please let me know if you have any problems viewing the site. It validates to XHTML 1.0, by the way.

The site displays correctly in Firefox, Chrome, Opera, IE6 and IE7. I've also built in a function to identify mobile browsers and direct to a specific stylesheet, but that sheet isn't finished yet for this design.

BLOG POST: Ida - where did she live?

Ida (aka Darwinius maxillae) is a fossil primate skeleton dated at 47 million years old. She is thought to be a possible (very) distant ancestor of humans. She probably died in a lake within the caldera of a collapsed volcano wher she was very young.

BLOG POST: School lessons in self-control ‘are as important as numeracy’

According to recent research, 'skills absorbed at home by many middle-class children, such as how to defer gratification, are crucial in succeeding in life and should be taught in schools'. The researchers then go on to suggest we teach self-control in school.

BLOG POST: “Ofsted is part of problem in education system”

...says Chris Woodhead. What exactly is the problem? Are we not doing a good enough job? I'm more inclined to agree with his other more recent comment: that Ofsted is a "waste of public money".

Genius Quotes

There is only one good, knowledge, and one evil, ignorance.

Socrates

Jokes

A man in a hurry taking his eight-year-old son to school made a turn at a red light where it was prohibited.
'Uh-oh, I think I just made an illegal turn!' the man said.
'It's okay, Dad,' the boy said, 'The police car right behind us did the same thing.'

Free Font!!!

You may think this website looks cool, but it looks positively sub-zero when you have a font called Akbar installed on your computer!

I've arranged for permission to host the font on this site, so... download the Akbar font!

Akbar font

The font is based on Matt Groening's handwriting, so it's way cooler than Comic Sans. Full instructions on how to install the font on your computers are available here.

If you have a Mac, then you'll need to visit the creator's website and download the font from there.
